Gyanda
Komal’s Journey of
Learning and Resilience

Imagine Komal — a young girl growing up in a one-room chawl in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, where dreams were often limited by circumstance. Her parents, both vegetable vendors, worked tirelessly to keep their family of six afloat. Like many girls around her, Komal faced the possibility of being pulled out of school and married off early — her future confined within four walls.

But her journey changed course when she joined GYANDA in Grade 6 — our flagship supplementary learning program that provides after-school academic support and mentorship to first-generation learners from underserved communities.

With patient guidance, extra study hours, and emotional encouragement, Komal began to thrive — slowly bridging learning gaps and building confidence in herself and her future.

Why We Started GYANDA

Even in communities where children attend school, many silently struggle — battling comprehension gaps, low self-belief, and a lack of academic help at home.

We asked ourselves:

1

How can we help students stay in school and learn holistically?

2

How can after-school support build pathways to higher education and stable employment breaking the cycle of poverty

GYANDA was created to answer these questions. It bridges the space between school and success — supporting learners from primary grades to higher secondary, ensuring consistent mentorship for 8–12 years until they are ready for higher education or work.
