Why we started the Indigo Museum
The Indigo Museum is conceived not merely as an exhibition space, but as a dynamic knowledge and design platform. It brings together history, craft, research, and innovation to explore indigo in its full depth and relevance—serving both as an archive of tradition and a catalyst for future-facing design thinking.
At its core, the museum documents and interprets indigo’s historical and cultural journey, preserving its legacy across generations. At the same time, it highlights ongoing innovation in indigo-related materials and practices, positioning the dye within contemporary design and sustainability discourse. By fostering artistic collaborations and providing a platform for artists, sculptors, and designers to experiment and exhibit their work, the museum creates space for indigo to evolve as a living, creative medium.

At the heart of the Indigo Museum is a commitment to treating indigo not as a static heritage material, but as a living artistic medium. In 2024, the Museum established the Artistic Incubator Initiative to encourage deeper exploration of indigo’s creative and contemporary potential.
